The Yellow Assessor is peaceful and reef safe. It thrives in aquariums with plenty of rockwork and shaded areas where it can perch or hover. This species is captive bred in the USA by Proaquatix and has been raised on prepared foods, making it hardy and well-adjusted to aquarium life.
This species is reef safe and can be kept singly, in pairs, or potentially in small groups in larger tanks with ample territory. Assessors are born female, and the dominant one in a group or pair becomes male as they mature. It is compatible with most other peaceful reef fish and avoids open water, preferring to hover near structure or retreat into caves when startled.
